Weekly Wrap #10
Have you ever created a goal, became organized, and planned
out the steps necessary to achieve it? How do you handle road blocks or hiccups
that may alter those plans? Well, we can allow it to upset us, or we can adapt
and overcome. When I decided to start training for this endurance race, I had
to research different training plans to figure out what might work best for me.
The “Running Your First 50k” plans all recommended that you have a few
marathons under your belt. The “Intermediate Marathon” plan seemed to have a
nice layout that could be tweaked for further distances. I figured, “Hey! These
are both great and can be combined for the ultimate plan!”
With the Race Beneath the Sun on Saturday, I had to rearrange my runs for the week. I hadn’t been training for this race specifically, but I also didn’t want it to suck because of a super long run a day or two beforehand. Wednesday seemed to be the best option for my long run since it gave me enough time to recover from the 14 miler the previous Saturday, with enough time to recover before the following Saturday’s race. Wednesdays have also been my physical therapy appointments in the morning, so my “long” run was shorter than I would’ve liked, only 10 miles. Oh well! This week included six days of running, which has never happened before!

She's definitely not a little baby! |
This month is also #streakingwiththecoolkids which means I
have to walk, run, or jog at least 1 mile per day for the entire month of June!
I have never done a run streak before, so this is a fun and exciting challenge.
Thursday was the first time, like
literally the first time ever, that I only ran one mile. I’ve had no
idea how slow or fast my mile time would be and I am happy with the results (especially
since I ran 10 miles the day before)! You may have guessed that I'll be saving the Race Beneath the Sun recap for a separate post, and you are right! Ha. I did manage to finish in 38:35, placing third in my age group (F19-29). My stepson also raced and he finished a whopping five minutes before me, running a 6:30min/mi pace! He snagged first place in his age group. Way to go!
Once again, I'm linking up with Tricia and Holly for the Weekly Wrap! They've started a new Guest Host Series for the Weekly Wrap and this week's host is Kim with Kooky Runner! Have you combined different training plans before? Did you run any races this week? I'd love to know!
I haven't combined training plans before, but I can definitely see how it could work, especially when training for a 50K! I think that you have to find what works best for you, so if that means combining plans, I say go for it! Congrats on placing 3rd in your age group!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up for the Weekly Wrap!
The marathon plan has specific mileage for each workout, while the 50k plan has "time running" for each workout and only lists mileage for long runs. Seems to be working so far!
DeleteI am always so impressed with the speedy paces you can keep up with stroller!
ReplyDeleteAw thanks! We've been running with the stroller for 14 months now on all sorts of terrain. Definitely a good challenge
DeleteI have done several of the Runner's World streaks (four of the Holiday streaks...Thanksgiving Day -New Year's Day), and one time I did a similar summer streak that went from memorial Day to July 4th. I am not a daily runner usually, but I like doing the streaks occasionally to mix things up...and I usually do the runs at a slower than usual pace so I don't burn out or risk injury. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteOh that is very cool! The holiday streak would be good to balance out our holiday treats 😁
